Manuscripts in the contemporary fiction genre are fictitious stories that occur in real settings and feature characters that represent “real” people. The books do not fall under other categories or genres, such as paranormal romance, science fiction, or fantasy. They usually take place in the modern time period, that is to say, the same period the reader is living (the present). The things that happen to the characters are artistically represented to reflect modern idioms, symbolism, slang, jargon, etc.
